WHEREAS, malaria is a major public health problem in more than ninety (90) countries inhabited by approximately forty percent (40%) of the world's population;
WHEREAS, the mission of PATH is to improve health, especially the health of women and children;
WHEREAS, the mission of the Malaria Vaccine Initiative at PATH is to accelerate the development of malaria vaccines and ensure their availability and accessibility for the developing world;
WHEREAS, the aim of EMVI is to provide a mechanism through which the development of experimental malaria vaccines can be accelerated within Europe and in developing countries;
NOW, THEREFORE, within the framework of the Statutes of each entity, the European Malaria Vaccine Initiative and the PATH Malaria Vaccine Initiative agree to accelerate the development of a malaria vaccine for people in developing countries.
In order to leverage results, the MVI at PATH and EMVI intend to collaborate in the following areas:
It is anticipated that the collaboration could occur through any of the following:
Separate programming and funding, post facto reporting.
Separate programming and funding, early coordination of effort
Joint programming, separate funding
Joint programming, pooled funding.
It is acknowledged that each party may posses confidential information from independent third parties. This information would only be shared between the parties under a specific confidential disclosure agreement and with the permission of the third party whose information would be shared.
This Memorandum of Understanding is a non-binding document that creates no rights and imposes no obligations on either party.
