Database Programmer (short term contract)

EVI is a non-profit organisation based in Heidelberg, Germany dedicated to accelerating the development of vaccines for diseases of poverty.

As part of the EC funded project “INYVAX” (www.inyvax.eu), EVI wishes to establish a comprehensive database of persons and organisations working with vaccine technologies, with the goal of improving access to these across different infectious diseases and across countries and continents.

For this task we are seeking a database programmer for a short term contract (max 3 months) to establish a web driven database with minimal maintenance requirements, that will be hosted on the EVI – website.

Summary
: The successful candidate will be responsible for analysing, designing, developing and documenting a web-driven database.

Duties:

·         Setting up, Implementing and testing a new database;
·         Creating query definitions that allow data to be extracted;
·         Controlling access to the database;
·         Maintaining the security and integrity of information;

·         Developing training materials for the system developed.

Qualifications/Skills/Experience

The ideal candidate must possess the following qualifications and competencies:

·         A university degree in Computer Science/Information Technology or related field from a recognised university;
·         Knowledge of Relational Database Management Systems;
·         The understanding of various platforms and ability to work with different languages will be an added advantage;
·         Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
·         Ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines;
·         Working knowledge in English.
