Optimisation of the development of Poverty-Related diseases (PRD) vaccines by a transversal approach, addressing common gaps and challenges
The development of vaccines against poverty-related diseases faces several common gaps and challenges, including difficulties in accessing know-how and technology platforms in vaccine development, formulation, and delivery; difficulties in harmonising safety data collection and an insufficient number of trained scientists able to undertake leadership roles in vaccine development.
The three year project, coordinated by EMVI, with eight partners (see below) has a budget of €932 335. Official starting date: 1 February 2009.
INYVAX aims to address these challenges by
- Establishing a comprehensive database of marketed PRD vaccines and vaccines in development, addressing the advantages, constraints and limits of each technologies and additional criteria such as transferability of the know-how, benchmarking, production costs or regulatory compliance.
- Optimizing knowledge and resources for the Formulation of PRD vaccines
- Implementing Safety standards in clinical trials of PRD vaccines, allowing meta-analysis of the safety of similar vaccine approaches
- Establishing a training programme in vaccinology, inlcuding the areas: Pre-clinical vaccine research, Design and monitoring of clinical trials, Vaccine safety issues, Selection of new and appropriate vaccination strategies and Effective communication.
